Kemp's was established by Harry Kemp in April 2003 after working for over 14 years in the accountancy profession, initially for local Canterbury and Deal based practices and latterly as Taxation and Audit Partner for a London West End based practice. Harry was born in Broadstairs, attended Chatham House School, then Reading University and currently lives in Broadstairs in the conservation area. He is a long term and deeply committed vegan which fits well with the rising awareness in the general population of green issues. As a business Kemp's has taken and will continue to take, many steps to align itself more with an ethos consistent with minimising our impact on the environment and animals.
Kemp's fulfils Harry's long term ambition to be able to offer high-level professional accountancy and taxation services in Broadstairs and Thanet to the local community. As the business continues to grow it is integrating more and more into the local business environment. In 2019 the practice moved to the professional chambers above the old Lloyds Bank premises in Broadstairs High Street and is committed to a continued long term presence in the town. Recently many members of the team have achieved personal goals by passing professional exams and the team continues to grow and strengthen.
Harry manages the practice and the Broadstairs office in Thanet, Kent, which has nine staff. Harry is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and a member of the ICAEW Tax Faculty. He is also a regular member of the Thanet and East Kent Chamber of Trade pro bono Advisory Panel and advises many local non-for-profit organisations
In 2011 Kemps opened an office in Hamble, near Southampton. This was managed by John Callaghan who graduated in 1987 from Reading University with a degree in Accountancy. Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1991 John worked as an audit manager for Touche Ross (now Deloittes) but soon left for a varied and highly successful career in industry.
John has strong commercial skills and a wide variety of technical knowledge.
In January 2023, the decision was made to separate the Hamble office into a stand alone practice, Hamble Accountancy Ltd. The two practices still work hand in hand as consultants to each other and are very closely associated, sharing their knowledge base, marketing and some administrative tasks.
Harry and John share a common philosophy which is to provide a friendly, personal, high-quality service and to work proactively with clients to maximise the probability of them achieving their business goals, whatever they may be, whilst minimising their tax liabilities.
